Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former Indian cricket player, believes that Hardik Pandya should become the captain of the Indian cricket team when Rohit Sharma decides to stop. Hardik has led India before and is now leading the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024. Sidhu thinks Hardik is the future captain of India, and he supports the BCCI’s decision to prepare him for the role.
Hardik Pandya will be important in the future. Rohit Sharma is getting older, he’s about 36 or 37 now. He’s still good for a couple more years. Rohit is a great captain and player. He moves on the field like poetry in motion, making time seem to stand still. But we need to start preparing for someone else to take his place.
I’m not saying Hardik Pandya should be the Test match captain, but he’s the vice-captain. He led India in T20Is for almost a year when Rohit wasn’t there. So, naturally, he’s a good option. That’s why BCCI made him vice-captain. BCCI thinks a lot before making such decisions. Hardik is a good choice for leading in white-ball cricket.
On the other hand, Sidhu believes Jasprit Bumrah should lead in Test cricket after Rohit. He thinks Bumrah deserves a chance at it.
If you look at the red ball, BCCI planned ahead. Jasprit Bumrah is a real hero. We usually talk about Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni… but Bumrah is handling pressure really well. After his injury, he came back strong.
That’s why he’s now the vice-captain. Maybe he could even be the Test match captain eventually. It’s too soon to decide. There’s a lot to consider when choosing a captain. It’s all about the team. But Bumrah has led in England, he deserves it.
Meanwhile, Hardik’s MI will play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024 on Thursday.
