Cricket Australia Open to Hosting India-Pakistan Bilateral Series

Cricket Australia (CA) has reiterated its willingness to facilitate a bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan if the Boards of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) express interest in resuming their cricketing rivalry.

Despite the proximity of India and Pakistan’s men’s teams in Australia this November, as part of Pakistan’s tour to play three ODIs and T20Is followed by India’s five-Test series, the likelihood of bilateral matches between the two nations remains slim due to past tensions.

The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan occurred in 2012-13, with their encounters currently limited to global ICC events. Following the highly successful India-Pakistan match at the MCG during the 2022 T20 World Cup, which drew a massive crowd of 90,293, CA, along with the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Victorian government, expressed interest in hosting bilateral matches between the two teams at the MCG.

CA CEO Nick Hockley emphasized the desire to witness the intense contest between India and Pakistan on Australian soil, citing the memorable atmosphere of the previous encounter at the MCG.

While acknowledging the potential interest in organizing a tri-series involving India and Pakistan, CA’s head of scheduling Peter Roach clarified that no such arrangements were possible due to current scheduling constraints. Nevertheless, CA remains open to exploring opportunities for engaging cricket contests that captivate fans worldwide.
